What's the difference between your free credit report and your free credit score?

Your annual free credit report lists the full detail on all your credit accounts. It tracks your past payments on all your loans and credit cards. Your credit report is different than your credit score. Your credit score is a number that ranges from 300 to 850.

Your credit score is used by a lender to help them determine whether you might qualify for a particular credit card, loan, or service. Most credit scores estimate the risk a company incurs by lending you money or providing them with a service. In other words, the likelihood that you would make your payments on time in the future. The higher your credit score, the less risk you represent to a lender.

The credit score you saw last year or even last week for that matter, was a snapshot of your credit file at that moment in time. Credit scores are fluid and can change anytime your credit report file is updated with new information.

You should always stay on top of your credit reports and credit score before you apply for any loans or credit card. Confused.com reveal drivers are only swayed by price in the hunt for the best car insurance deals

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 27, 2011 – Confused.com's latest survey has found that consumers use price-comparison sites purely because they help slash insurance bills with the minimum of hassle.

More than half of the survey's 2,600 respondents said that special offers such as cashback or vouchers had absolutely no bearing on their decision to use a comparison site. A further 40 per cent said the only kind of marketing incentive that would appeal to them was some form of discount on their premiums.

That's why using a price comparison site is so important, it gives drivers the opportunity to compare not only price but a range of features. When it came to choosing an insurer, three-quarters of consumers said the only thing that would cause them to switch providers was a cheaper price.  Around 15 per cent said they would move to a new company purely because it was a trusted brand, while just 9 per cent said they would switch if the new insurer offered extras such as free breakdown cover.

Unsurprisingly, price was the number one reason respondents gave for using price-comparison sites – more than 90 per cent cited this as a major factor in using these services, and 40 per cent also said they appreciated the fact the sites saved them so much time in their search for the best value cover.

Un problema mecánico aparta al piloto AMV Marc Coma del podio de la Baja-España Aragón

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 26, 2011 – La XXVIII edición de la Baja-España Aragón ha terminado antes de lo previsto para el piloto de la compañía de seguros AMV Marc Coma. A pesar de tratarse de una prueba en la que, tanto él, como su equipo, no tenían mucha experiencia, lideraba la clasificación a falta de muy pocos kilómetros para concluir la prueba.

No ha podido ser. El piloto AMV Marc Coma ha sufrido un problema mecánico en su KTM 530 EXC justo cuando estaba en la recta final de la Baja-España Aragón (a 80 km) y con el podio en su punto de mira. Ha sido entonces cuando su moto ha dicho basta. Pero ni esa situación, ha hecho cambiar el rostro del piloto de la eterna sonrisa, que a pesar de haber alisado una buena actuación, no ha tenido la oportunidad de poder concluir la prueba.

El rally, mucho más explosivo a los que está acostumbrado el de Avía, había comenzado con buenas expectativas para el piloto AMV, finalizando segundo en la etapa prólogo del viernes. En la jornada de ayer, Coma ya se situó líder, a pesar de sufrir un problema con el cambio de su moto. Y en la tercera etapa de hoy, y tras comandar la clasificación durante la primera especial, y gran parte de la segunda, el piloto AMV se ha visto obligado a retirarse, quedándose fuera del podio después de los éxitos en Abu Dhabi y Cerdeña.

Marc Coma, piloto AMV:
"Ha sido una lástima. Parecía que lo teníamos controlado ya que habíamos realizado una buena progresión a lo largo de los dos días pero un problema mecánico nos ha apartado del podio final. El rally en si no tenía mucho secreto pero al no ser una prueba en la que tengamos mucha experiencia, dadas las características de la misma, partíamos un poco a la expectativa y sin ninguna referencia. La etapa prólogo, un mero trámite para salir bien en la primera etapa, nos sirvió para poder salir delante y seguir el ritmo de los pilotos con más experiencia en este tipo de pruebas. Ayer, el problema mecánico con el cambio de la moto nos obligó a ser más cautos en la recta final de la etapa aunque lo que no esperábamos es que hoy, otro problema mecánico nos obligara a abandonar la prueba, justo cuando íbamos con muy buen ritmo y tras haber sido muy consistentes a lo largo de la jornada. Todo mi equipo tiene mucha experiencia en rallys raids, con lo cual, este tipo de pruebas son muy diferentes a las que estamos acostumbrados. Estaría más satisfecho habiendo terminado en el podio pero de este tipo de experiencias, se aprende, y mucho. Mi próxima prueba será, probablemente, en Austria a principios de agosto, para poder preparar el Rally de los Faraones".

REX-UNC and WakeMed Convene Wake County School Health Meeting

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 25, 2011 – The issue of health care has been a hot topic in the political arena this year, and for Wake County teens, the issue is just as salient. Last Wednesday, July 20th , Rex-UNC Health Care, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, and the North Carolina School Community Health Alliance partnered with Youth Empowered Solutions (YES!) to convene a meeting of school board members, medical providers and Wake County students to discuss how the establishment of a school-based health center may increase access to vital mental and physical health services and address the needs of the over 16,000 uninsured youth in Wake County.

“This meeting was important to have right now when so many teens in Wake County are
not getting the health care they need and deserve,” says YES! youth staff Dynasty
Winters. “We need to get away from the idea that health and education are two separate
areas. How do we expect students to learn if they are not healthy and in their seats?”

The youth’s passion for the idea was reciprocated by the positive response of those who
attended the convening. “It is impressive to hear Wake County teens who have actually
researched the topic and talked with their peers about the importance of health care
services,” said Steve Shore, Executive Director of the North Carolina Pediatric Society.
With the recent closing of Wake Teen Medical Services, a center that provided primary
care to the students who need it the most, is needed now more than ever.

According to YES! Program Director Parrish Ravelli, a school-based health center can
provide annual wellness checks, vaccinations, and support the management of chronic
illness. Ravelli, who also works closely with the National Assembly of School Based
Heath Centers says, “We know that the model of school-based care bridges the gap
between the health and educational community and addresses the needs of the whole
child, allowing them to reach the fullest potential.”

The issue of sustainability was a major talking point at the meeting. Presenters noted that federal funding is a possibility for the construction/staffing of the center. Medical
providers such as Rex-UNC Health Care, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, and Wake
Health Services, a federal-qualified community health center all have a stake and interest in contributing to the long-term success of this center.

According to providers from the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians,
adolescents are among the most medically underserved populations.
Considering that a school nurse is only available once or twice a week in most Wake
County schools, Wake County students have cause for concern. In fact, the Wake County
student to nurse ratio is an astonishing 1:2100 while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended level is 1:750.

Yet ratios aren’t the only need that a school-based health center can fill. The 50 other
school-based and school-linked health centers in North Carolina are known to provide
comprehensive education, vaccinations, and treatment related to mental health, injury and various chronic and acute illnesses, and for many are the medical home they wouldn’t have otherwise.

The result is higher school attendance, lower emergency room visits, and added support
for uninsured youth. Moreover, these on-campus services are developed based on the
needs of each individual community, benefitting everyone.

Moving forward the attendees will continue to meet regularly as the Wake School-Based

A Miami-area resident and owner of a fraudulent physical therapy company in Lakeland, Fla., pleaded guilty today for his role in a scheme to defraud Medicare, the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services (HHS) announced.

Jorge Zamora, 48, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Pizzo in Tampa, Fla., to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.  

According to court documents, Zamora was an owner of Dynamic Therapy Inc.  Zamora and his co-conspirators purchased Dynamic from its previous owners, and transformed it into a fraudulent enterprise.  Dynamic purported to provide physical therapy services to Medicare beneficiaries, but in reality used the stolen identities of a physical therapist and scores of patients to bill Medicare for physical therapy services that were never provided.

According to court documents, from fall 2009 to summer 2010, Zamora and his co-conspirators submitted and caused the submission of $757,654 in fraudulent claims to the Medicare program by Dynamic.  Zamora admitted that he and his co-conspirators submitted claims to Medicare for physical therapy services that were never provided.

Three officers of Dynamic Therapy also have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud. At sentencing, Zamora faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Since their inception in March 2007, Medicare Fraud Strike Force operations in nine locations have charged more than 1,000 defendants who collectively have falsely billed the Medicare program for more than $2.3 billion.  In addition, the HHS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, working in conjunction with the HHS-OIG, are taking steps to increase accountability and decrease the presence of fraudulent providers.

To represent a consumer in negotiations with an insurance company, an individual must have a license as a public adjuster with the Department of Insurance.

Consumers who are having challenges with their homeowners insurance claims may be vulnerable to companies that are unscrupulous or operating illegally in the state. These companies may call themselves insurance claims specialists or say they can get a home rebuilt better than before at no charge to the homeowner.

Missouri's insurance director says many of these offers are too good to be true. He says charitable and religious organizations may inadvertently endorse an unlicensed public adjuster because they're not familiar with Missouri's licensing requirement.

"Policyholders should first try to resolve differences directly with their insurance company," said John M. Huff, director of the Missouri Department of Insurance. "If they reach an impasse, they can file a complaint with our department - our services come free of charge."

The department recently announced that it helped recover more than $5 million for consumers who had filed complaints against their insurance companies in the first half of 2011.

Consumers who choose to use the services of a licensed public adjuster will likely have to pay a commission on the eventual claim payment.

Huff says before selecting a public adjuster to represent them, consumers should contact the department to verify that the individual is properly licensed by the state.

Gov. Jay Nixon has issued an executive order setting strict limitations on the activities of public adjusters working with insurance policyholders in Joplin. Under the order, public adjusters working in Jasper and Newton counties must:

   Show proof of state license to prospective customers;
Not require payment in advance for representation;
Not charge a fee of more than 5 percent of the insurance claim payment; and
Offer consumers 14 days to cancel a contract.

The Department of Insurance says consumers should exercise extreme caution before signing a contract with a public adjuster. Consumers with questions or complaints can call the Insurance Consumer Hotline at 800-726-7390 or visit insurance.mo.gov.

Medical Group Recommends More Frequent Mammograms To Reduce Breast Cancer Deaths

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 21, 2011 – The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued an update to their breast screening guidelines that they report could reduce the number of deaths caused by breast cancer, especially in young women.

According to the American Association for Critical Illness Insurance some 1.5 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year.  "Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women," explains Association director Jesse Slome "and anything that could help identify cancer earlier will save more lives and we fully support the recommendation."

The new recommendation recommends mammography screenings be offered to women annually beginning at age 40.   The preior guidelines recommended mammograms every one to two years, beginning at age 40, and then annually beginning at age 50.

The recommendation has reignited a debate about the most appropriate ages and frequency for breast cancer screening.   The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now believes annual testing will save more lives by catching cancers sooner. The association of gynecologists shifted away from its earlier wording suggesting that women “should have screening mammography’’ to a tone that simply advises doctors to offer it to patients.

That recommendation comes in marked contrast to advice issued 20 months ago by the US Preventive Services Task Force, a government-appointed independent panel that created a furor when it stopped recommending routine mammograms for women in their 40s after determining the small benefits of screening at that age might not outweigh the harm from finding abnormalities that turn out to be benign.

The new Association recommendation says deciding to have a mammogram is ultimately up to each woman, saying women 40 and older should be offered the screening annually.  “Our thinking was that 40,000 women in their 40s are diagnosed every year with breast cancer and that 20 percent of these women who are diagnosed will ultimately die from the disease,’’ said Dr. Jennifer Griffin, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and lead author of the new recommendations.

The American Cancer Society, which explicitly recommends yearly mammograms starting at 40, reports that most of the benefits of screening mammography are achieved by starting at age 50 and continuing to have screening every two years until age 75. That is because breast cancers become more common as women age, which means screening has the potential to save more lives for those in their 60s.

According to data from the critical illness insurance association http://www.criticalillnessinsuranceinfo.org without screening, 30 out of 1,000 US women are expected to die of breast cancer. But that drops to 23 out of 1,000 if women undergo screening every other year from age 50 to 75. Beginning screening every other year at 40 saves one additional life per 1,000 women screened.
