A Changing Ford Focus

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 10, 2011 - Grand Rapids, Aug 8, 2011: “Start More Than a Car; Get More Than a Test Drive”.

Bold words, eh? Ford, is kicking off its re-imagined Focus with a fresh new advertising campaign. The idea itself may be simple – “drive it!” – but the level to which they’re taking this concept is unique, unusual, and (above all) innovative.

Prospective buyers are thrown right into a videogame-like experience. They pilot the car on a makeshift track in an exciting test of speed and accuracy. Curved roads and cone slalom runs pit the vehicle’s handling against the skill of the driver. Challenges make use of the Focus’ new hardware – everything from the rearview camera to its front grille sensor. Drivers are “graded” based on points, and points are gathered from lasers on the underbody of the car. That’s right. Lasers.

Bull’s-eyes are placed on the driving track to better measure the preciseness of maneuvers. When a driver directs the Focus over a target full-on, the underbody lasers trip a censor and a quick guitar riff and a series of cheers fills the car. Were the driver to miss one, the reaction is less positive – groans and sighs. It gives the whole experience a high-energy feel.

That’s not all, though. A “lipstick” camera is placed on the rearview mirror as well, documenting the entire experience of the driver – every smile, every laugh, every frantic spin of the wheel. Once concluding the test, drivers have the option of posting their videos to Facebook, or Twitter.

By creating a uniquely interactive and shareable experience, Ford means to take its own excitement at the newly designed Focus, and bring it to the masses.

Although its European counterparts have been creating buzz, America hasn’t seen a “new” Focus since 2004. The United States has been skipped over in past years, but 2012 promises to change things. Ford wants to take an aggressive bite out of the global market, showing young buyers that this Focus is a compact urban runaround to contend with.

So, to celebrate the Focus’ groundbreaking redesign, Ford is embarking on a groundbreaking redesign of its own… on how a “test drive” is done, and even how cars are sold! No more stuffy salesmen and glass cages. Let the people spread the word.
The “Start More Than a Car” program will have a22-city tour, kicking off in Chicago on August 22nd. It will hit major cities all across the nation ending finally on December 17th.

Ford wishes to gather 100,000 people to test drive their new Focus – estimating that this tour will account for half the numbers alone. Will you be one of them?

Whether you plan on picking up one of the new Focuses or not, you should still have the best auto coverage possible. Access Insurance Agencies would love to help, if we're not already. Just stop by 2285 28th St. Grand Rapids 49508, visit www.accessgr.com, or call (616) 245-5555.

Standard Life reveals Brits tend to miss bargain investments

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 08, 2011 - Standard Life has found that the majority of UK consumers can spot a good deal when it comes to a holiday, but are likely to miss out on a good deal when it comes to their finances.

In a UK wide consumer poll and prize draw in which 8,500 people took part Standard Life found that almost seven out of ten (70%) people would choose a holiday of a lifetime worth £5,000 even if they had to wait five years, rather than settle on a luxury short break this year worth £640*. £5,000 is how much a pension (http://www.standardlife.co.uk/1/site/uk/pensions) could be worth if £640 was invested into a pension plan (http://www.standardlife.co.uk/1/site/uk/help/financial-c ...) each year for the next five years**.

The poll and prize draw, run by long term savings and investment (http://www.standardlife.co.uk/1/site/uk/investing) provider Standard Life, highlighted that the UK public know how to spot a good deal when offered one and are willing to wait five years to make their holiday dreams come true.  But this savvy forward looking culture is yet to filter through into finances, with almost half (45%) of Brits planning just one to 12 months ahead and a further one in six (17%) failing to make any financial plans at all, according to Standard Life's research***.

Standard Life's John Lawson said: "Consumers are keen to spot a good deal which is why voucher codes and group buying websites have become so popular.  But many only apply this bargain hunt culture when buying goods, not when it comes to their financial planning. Consumers who take a short term view to their personal finances are likely to miss out on long term tax efficient products that offer far greater benefits than your standard savings account.  For example, if you're a lower rate tax payer and pay into a pension, the government gives you 20% extra on top straight away in tax relief.  That means a pension contribution of £100 a month is instantly worth £125 a month.  People's great bargain hunting skills are being wasted if they are not picking out these great investment deals."

Notes to Editors:
* The average amount British households spend on a package holiday each year based on ONS Stats.
** For illustrative purposes only, assuming 5% annual investment growth, 4% average annual pay rise each year and basic rate tax relief on pension contributions.
*** According to the Standard Life omnibus research undertaken between 23-25 March 2011, 45% of people plan their finances one month to 12 months ahead; 17% of people don't plan their finances at all;  22% plan between a year and five years ahead; and just 16% of people plan over 5 years ahead.  Total sample size was 2,057 adults in the UK.

Error and Omission Insurance Explained

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 10, 2011 - What Is Errors And Omissions (E&O) Insurance?

Errors and Omissions Insurance is business liability insurance for professionals such as insurance agents, real estate agents and brokers, architects, third party administrators and other business professionals.  An error or omission, a mistake, which causes financial harm to another, can occur on almost any transaction in any profession. This type of insurance helps to protect a professional, an individual or a company, from bearing the full cost of defense for lawsuits relating to an error or omission in providing covered Professional Services. This is a separate coverage from a standard general liability or property insurance policy.  Errors and Omissions Insurance may be referred as any of the following: E&O, E&O Insurance, Errors Omissions, Errors & Omissions Professional Liability, Professional Liability Insurance, and Malpractice (legal and medical professionals).

What Does Errors and Omissions Insurance Cover?

All E&O insurance policies are unique and therefore have different coverage’s and exclusions. However, in general, E&O insurance is designed to help pay for defense costs and the damage awards associated with professional liability claims.  Even the most diligent professional can be held liable for a professional error, omission or mistake.  Defense costs are a significant portion of the cost of an errors and omissions insurance policy. It is not uncommon for a professional to spend thousands of dollars on defense costs for a matter that ultimately gets dismissed.  A Professional liability claim must allege negligence in either the performance of or failure to perform Professional Services.  Errors and omissions insurance policies have a specific limit of liability and usually include both legal costs and damage awards in a single limit.  E&O insurance does not cover intentional, fraudulent or illegal activities or in most policies, punitive damages. Remember all policies are unique, therefore not all claims may be covered in a policy and you should read your policy very carefully.

Why Should I Purchase Errors and Omissions Insurance?

Lawsuits aren’t just about negligence; they are about allegations of negligence.  We live in a litigious environment where any professional can be sued.  Many innocent parties are brought into a suit simply because they are part of a transaction.  In other words, the alleged error or omission does not have to be your error or omission.  Defending the reputation of your business, whether the allegation is frivolous or not can still result in lost productivity and legal costs exceeding hundreds of thousands of dollars. Errors and Omissions Insurance allows you to plan ahead and transfer a portion of the risk of unpredictable legal expenditures to the insurance carrier, reducing the financial impact of an allegation against your business.

Why Buy Errors and Omissions Insurance from West Valley Associates?

Simply put; we are good at what we do. Most insurance agents offer E&O insurance as an ancillary product to their other insurance products. We are specialists in the field of professional liability and have the requisite experience to assist you with your Professional Liability needs.  At West Valley Associates we analyze the risk of our clients based on wha t services they provide and develop risk solutions designed specifically for their needs. Our firm and its agents service E&O insurance clients in almost every state and in almost every industry.  We do not provide cookie cutter products.

How Much Does E&O Cost?

Errors and omissions insurance premiums are based on several factors:
•   Type of Professional Services Provided
•   State where Services are Provided
•   Annual Revenues
•   Number of Professionals Providing Services
•   Loss / Claims History
•   Type of Policies
Don’t be fooled by price alone, potentially you could find yourself purchasing a cheaper policy that excludes all the Professional Services you provide.  This of course would render the policy useless.  Remember, defense costs are a significant portion of the cost of an errors and omissions insurance policy and a professional can easily spend thousands of dollars on defense costs for a matter that ultimately gets dismissed.  Each E&O insurance carrier has a different policy form and different exclusions.  A properly structured E&O policy will offer your business proper protection with a competitive price for those coverage’s.

How Do I Find the Right Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy?

The first step to finding the right Errors and Omissions insurance policy is to find the right professional liability insurance agent.  You wouldn’t use a tax attorney to defend a civil suit; likewise you should not use a workers’ compensation insurance agent to find the right E&O insurance policy for your company.  You should use an agent that specializes in E&O insurance to review your Professional Liability risk.  Interview your agent and assess their qualifications and understanding of the industry.  A Professional Liability agent or broker should have specific knowledge in dealing with your specific type of industry and have the requisite background and insurance markets to assist you.  Don’t be afraid to ask for references.  When choosing the right E&O insurance policy you and your agent should work together to consider several factors, including: What Professional Services do you provide? An E&O insurance policy should cover the specific Professional Services you provide.  For example, are you a residential or commercial real estate agent, a life or property casualty insurance agent or even a structural or design engineer?  It makes a difference in the policy you choose.  Your errors and omissions insurance policy should spell out specifically the Professional Services you provide.  What is the legal structure of the business offering the Professional Service?  Depending upon whether you are a Sole Proprietor, Corporation, Partnership, Limited Liability Company or other entity will determine who is covered under your errors and omissions insurance policy.  For example, corporations have shareholders whereas LLC’s have members.  Not all E&O policies address such issues correctly.

How do I get an errors and omissions insurance policy?

Determining if you can get an errors and omissions insurance policy is a relatively easy process.  It starts with filling out an application for E&O insurance, which typically will ask for information such as name, address, type of business, annual revenues and something about your business.  An application may also require financial statements or management bio's depending upon your industry or company size.  The underwriter needs to understand what they are insuring.

Fender Bender Mobile Injury Application is good to download from the Apple® iTunes® Store

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 09, 2011 - “Mobile Injury application protects people in accidents big or small, by gathering critical information before they leave the scene, and forget”

SEATTLE—(August 9, 2011) –Fender Bender Mobile today announced much anticipated accident mobile injury application for Apple iPhone® users has received the green light for FREE download on the iTunes Store.  This useful and application was designed to relieve stress on people who have been in an accident.  People wishing to download the application can do so by going to the following link on the iTunes store.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fender-bender-mobile/id45 ...

“The speed at which approval by Apple occurred really caught us by surprise,” said Dennis Sullivan, creator of Fender Bender.  We had been researching the length of time it takes for approval and paid special attention to the number of submissions, so we were expecting a much longer cycle,” Sullivan added.

The creator, design and development team operated under certain assumptions regarding the application.  First, it was Apple so the team knew that Apple has high quality standards when it comes to the look, feel and navigation.  Second, the team knew it had to work the first time in order to avoid a “decline” and further modification of the application.  The speed at which it all happened is a validation of design and development.

Fender Bender is a personal high value application.  Immediately after an accident, the emotional state of an accident victim (both drivers and passengers) is such that they are not thinking clearly and in most cases don’t have a clue as to what information is useful other than driver’s license and registration.  Fender Bender lets people fill out their personal insurance information up front without having to do it at the scene of the accident.  When finished they are locked and loaded.

“Everything about the design of the application was to reduce the amount of manual entry after an accident.  The use of flicking the screens, touching the parts of the body where they hurt, slide bar for pain level, voice recorder, photos and the use of an audio recorder were part of the solution, said Colin Magnuson, Fender Bender designer.  The ability for the application to lead the victim through a logical and painless process was the goal, Magnuson added.”

This was a really fun but challenging development process that went pretty smooth considering obstacles that most applications face in development,” said Jacob Williams, Fender Bender developer.  “As an experienced smartphone developer, the approval process was surprisingly quick.  From the very beginning I thought the possibility to achieve a Triple Play was within reach.  In the development world we call it the best of Design, Development and Marketing.  Fender Bender did it.”

Shawn Briggs, a personal injury attorney located in Lakewood, WA said “This has been a pleasing experience to assist Fender bender in understanding my industry.”  Injury Attorneys are unique in ways that most would not understand when trying create an application that provides more substantial and critical information than we might receive from an accident victim.”

Fender Bender has developed a strong marketing program to drive downloads that borrows from old school blocking and tackling methods applied to new media and technology.  The company is laser focused on becoming the premier application in this category.

Steve Edison, Professor, Marketing--College of Business University of Arkansas, Little Rock said, "I have been fortunate to follow Fender Bender’s development process since it began.  This is a very compelling and helpful application.  The company's sales and marketing direction is well thought out".
