“The speed at which approval by Apple occurred really caught us by surprise,” said Dennis Sullivan, creator of Fender Bender. We had been researching the length of time it takes for approval and paid special attention to the number of submissions, so we were expecting a much longer cycle,” Sullivan added.
The creator, design and development team operated under certain assumptions regarding the application. First, it was Apple so the team knew that Apple has high quality standards when it comes to the look, feel and navigation. Second, the team knew it had to work the first time in order to avoid a “decline” and further modification of the application. The speed at which it all happened is a validation of design and development.
Fender Bender is a personal high value application. Immediately after an accident, the emotional state of an accident victim (both drivers and passengers) is such that they are not thinking clearly and in most cases don’t have a clue as to what information is useful other than driver’s license and registration. Fender Bender lets people fill out their personal insurance information up front without having to do it at the scene of the accident. When finished they are locked and loaded.
“Everything about the design of the application was to reduce the amount of manual entry after an accident. The use of flicking the screens, touching the parts of the body where they hurt, slide bar for pain level, voice recorder, photos and the use of an audio recorder were part of the solution, said Colin Magnuson, Fender Bender designer. The ability for the application to lead the victim through a logical and painless process was the goal, Magnuson added.”
This was a really fun but challenging development process that went pretty smooth considering obstacles that most applications face in development,” said Jacob Williams, Fender Bender developer. “As an experienced smartphone developer, the approval process was surprisingly quick. From the very beginning I thought the possibility to achieve a Triple Play was within reach. In the development world we call it the best of Design, Development and Marketing. Fender Bender did it.”
