It should come as no surprise, then, that focus has now shifted from one’s home .. to the home away from home!
Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is encouraging summer campers to reduce their energy waste in a trial program called “Camp Green”. Various park officials have shared that electricity use remains the largest expense they face, what with campers firing up televisions, microwaves and refrigerator units – all the comforts of home – with impunity.
Beginning in June, campers at any one of 10 participating state parks (Aloha, Bay City, Cheboygan, Clear Lake, Onaway, Port Crescent, Seven Lakes, Tawas Point, Traverse City, and Wilson) may pick up a checklist pamphlet which details a few easy steps to going green.
Hopefully, this new initiative will make campers more aware of the choices they make, and how they affect the environment. Once completing the following list, champers are certified “green”, and given a window cling to display in their vehicle.
