UK Car Insurer Says New Car Technology Could Soon Make Car Insurance Cheaper

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 23, 2011 – One of the UK's leading online car insurance comparison websites and provider of specialist motor insurance, Car Insurance TV, has predicted that the rapid advancement of new car technologies such as crash safety devices and self managed control systems that avoid cars crashing, will eventually see certain types of car insurance cover disappear!

Writing on the company's website Car Insurance Blog, spokesperson Dave Healey predicted a rather grim and authoritarian view of driving in the near future, with government controlled and privately funded remote and external traffic control mechanisms interacting with onboard cars systems to ensure an orderly controlled and planned future of motoring.

"The days of crash for cash are numbered as are those of the joy rider." stated Mr Healey

Mr Healey argues that recent innovations in onboard security systems render all new cars virtually theft proof, and that the only thefts of modern cars are through negligence with keys.

"The boffins at Thatcham who decide the insurance ratings groups for new cars on behalf of the ABI (Association of British Insurers) and the Car Insurance Companies, have known for a long time that people are being charged more for premiums than the risk warrants for theft." said Mr Healey.

"Despite all the talk about crash for cash and whiplash and solicitors referal fees being the cause of higher car insurance premiums, these are not the things that drivers as individuals are getting rated on when they compare car insurance quotes and covers. The main factor in the price that people are paying for their car insurance is where they live! Their Postcode, or to put it correctly the rate for their postcode theft area."

"This is just one example of where car insurance has yet to catch up with modern times".

New Study Reports Alzheimer's Could Be Prevented

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 19, 2011 – Lifestyle changes and treatment or prevention of chronic medical conditions could potentially prevent more than half of Alzheimer's cases.

According to a new report by health researchers at the San Francisco VA Medical Center the biggest modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease are, in descending order of magnitude, low education, smoking, physical inactivity, depression, mid-life hypertension, diabetes and mid-life obesity.

The scientists analyzed data from studies around the world involving hundreds of thousands of participants.  They reported that for aging adults in the United States, the biggest modifiable risk factors are physical inactivity, depression, smoking, mid-life hypertension, mid-life obesity, low education and diabetes.

They noted that these risk factors are associated with up to 51 percent of Alzheimer's cases worldwide (17.2 million cases) and up to 54 percent of Alzheimer's cases in the United States (2.9 million cases).

"This is great news for millions of aging Americans," declares Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance http://www.aaltci.org.  Alzheimer's disease impacts several million Americans and is the most common reason aging adults require costly long-term care.

"The study suggests that some very simple lifestyle changes, such as increasing physical activity and quitting smoking, could have a tremendous impact on preventing Alzheimer's," said Slome.

The study results were presented at the 2011 meeting of the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 1916338565  on Alzheimer's Disease in Paris, France.  The research was supported by funds from the Alzheimer's Association, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, the UCSF School of Medicine and the National Institute on Aging.

The American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance http://www.aaltci.org is a trade organization. The Association's Consumer Information Center is the #1 source for information and can be accessed at http://www.aaltci.org/long-term-care-insurance
